Colombian Emerald Price - How Much Does a Colombian Emerald Cost?
There are many factors that go into the cost of a Colombian Emerald. As a result there can be a wide range in price depending on the natural properties of the emerald and it's size and current market prices. Here are some general price points that Colombian Emeralds have been trading at as of 2026:
High end emeralds with very clear stones that are bright green in color will sell for around $5,500-15,000 per carat on the retail market.
Good quality emeralds with a bit of inclusion and/or color will sell for around $1,200-4,500 per carat on the retail market.
Large (over 7 carats) flawless emeralds with intense green color will start at $15,000+ per carat.
You can expect a 2 carat emerald with great color and clarity to sell for about $3,000-4,000 per carat. And a 5 carat stone with similar color/clarity will sell for around $5,000-6,000 per carat. Of course if your stone is smaller than 2 carats the price per carat may be lower. But again it will depend on the quality of the stone.
These are just general prices that you can expect. Depending on the emeralds color, clarity, cut and carat weight as well as provenance can effect it's price.
How Do We Price Our Colombian Emeralds?
Every emerald that we sell is sent to a third party accredited lab before we ever put a price tag on it. Once the stone arrives at the lab they will grade the emerald on the 4 Cs.
- Color - They will grade the intensity of the green color.
- Clarity - They will identify the amount of inclusions the stone has.
- Cut - How well the stone was cut.
- Carat Weight - How much the stone weighs.
They will also note any dimension or treatment on the stone. A lab report will then be generated with a report number and the labs stamp and a signed grader. This allows us to ensure our customers that our emeralds are natural, unaltered, sold with true representations of what your purchasing and mined under ethical practices.
From here the lab (or partner valuation company) will look at current market prices for comparable emeralds. Once they come up with a fair market value for that particular emerald they will issue a price per carat.
We then take that price issued by the lab and offer our customers a wholesale price off of that value. This will allow us to achieve two things.
It will benefit the Buyer - Your buying price will be below that of retail market prices.
It allows for price transparency - You will know where the price came from and know you are getting a deal.
We will provide our Patrons with the labs grading report (with report number and labs stamp) when we deliver or ship them their emerald.
This will allow our Patrons to compare our price with the lab and know why they are receiving a discount.
We will keep a copy of the labs report for future use. If our Patron needs to insure their emerald or sell it at a later date we will have that information for them.
Why Colombian Emeralds?
Colombian Emeralds are known for their bright vibrant green color. Some people refer to the color of Colombian Emeralds as water.
Due to there being certain rock formations in Colombia that have allowed for Colombian Emeralds to have such vivid color. Emeralds are considered one of the rarer gemstones in the world. And since Colombia only has so many deposits they are extremely hard to find.
Emeralds are a very sought after stone and have been used as an investment. Because they are considered a hard currency they can appreciate in value.
Colombian Emeralds can sell for a higher price per carat then other origin emeralds if they are of high clarity and color. Emeralds like most valuable stones are considered an alternative investment. With more companies investing in colored stones we can expect prices to rise. Especially for Colombian Emeralds that are graded and certified by labs like GIA, EGL, IGL, SGL or IGI.
